THE HATE U GIVE
My Final Major Project (FMP) My project is called THE HATE YOU GIVE. The concept behind my idea is This story is about a boy reminiscing about a past relationship that was filled with love, disagreements, arguments and toxicity. Throughout the whole plot he gets flashbacks and reminders about his past lover. And just like the american tv series, 13 Reasons Why, his past lover will come and start appearing everywhere he goes cause his mind is obsessed and infatuated about this person. The outcome of the project is to overcome this problem and struggle and tackle it and to introduce his potential personal journey to enlightenment. I'm making this into a project because not only it is a drama, it also demonstrates day to day life of what people go through such as love, mental health, toxicity, abuse and trauma that one faces because of the past. Second reason why I'm doing this is because it's related to the viewer's standpoint and not just an ordinary drama on the screen. Another reason is because last year I did a music video and this year I want to demonstrate a new project that is more challenging; also to work on my cinematography such as angles and camera work and I really think it will be shown in this project.
An example I can use is an artist called Xxxtentacion and his album “17” and the hidden meanings about. “The Explanation” is a monologue where XXXTentacion states that the album is literally his emotions into music. That we are entering his head, and that he hopes that opening up his private emotions in the album can help out with the listeners mental health as well. “Jocelyn Flores” is named after his friend, who committed suicide in early 2017 at the age of 17. The song is written about how he felt after she tragically ended her life. “Depression & Obsession” is about how his mental health only worsened after him and his girlfriend Geneva broke up, and how his obsession with her was impacting him negatively. “Everybody Dies in their Nightmares” is a track about X getting into his head when he’s all alone, and how this sometimes leads him to wanting to die. “Revenge” is X contemplating revenge on himself for not saving Jocelyn Flores, and revenge for both himself and Geneva for their failed relationship. “Save Me” is X pleading with the listener to be a light for him before his mind rots beyond healing. “Dead Inside” is the interlude track. In it, X opens up about his time in prison. After he was arrested in the summer of 2016, his girlfriend Geneva cheated on him with a friend. X learned about this after he was released, which worsened his already toxic relationship with her. After he was arrested again in late 2016, the thought of Geneva sleeping with his friend ate away at him. “F*ck Love” is a track which features Trippie Redd. In the song, Trippie begs his girlfriend to take him back, and X talks about how his girlfriend breaking up with him mentally destroyed him. “Carry On” accuses his ex-girlfriend of hating him and falsely accusing him of domestic violence in 2016. “Orlando” is where he and Geneva lived for a while, which according to her is where many instances of abuse took place. X mainly reflects on his life and calls it a waste of time and worthless. “Ayala” is Geneva’s last name. X accuses her of being fake to him.
This example shows that people do experience these type of things in a day to day life in this society that we live in.
